The Partnership for Observation of the Global Ocean (POGO) was founded in 1999 by directors of oceanographic institutions around the world as a forum to promote and advance the observation of the global ocean. POGO is a UK-registered charity with member institutions from around the world, and works closely with other international and regional programmes and organisations.
POGO seeks to expand international support for ocean observing, through innovation of the ocean observing system, capacity development and outreach/advocacy.
TH13C: Climate Science to Climate Solutions: Introducing the U.K. National Climate Science Partnership
12:45-13:45 in Forth – SEC
There is a clear and urgent demand for climate solutions that support the transition to Net Zero, enhance societal resilience, support green growth, and optimise adaptation to future climate change. The UK National Climate Science Partnership (UKNCSP) has been formed, to draw together climate research capability from six Natural Environment Research Council (NERC)-supported Research Centres and the Met Office.
This town hall event will provide an overview of the UKNCSP strategy and Working Group activities on Climate Modelling, Climate Observations, Climate Interventions and Sea Level Rise. Invited panellists will give short perspectives on the challenges and opportunities for informing the climate solution space before opening the floor for a live Q & A event and audience discussion. We are particularly keen to engage with researchers/practitioners and decision-makers working in the climate impacts space who can make use of UKNCSP physical science outputs in a range of national and international decision-making and policy contexts.
POGO CEO, Dr Sophie Seeyave, will be one of the panellists.
